Tanzania Biological Safety Association (TaBSA)

Welcome to TaBSA

TANZANIA BIOLOGICAL SAFETY ASSOCIATION (TaBSA) is a professional association that congregates practitioners for promotion of biosafety and biosecurity to facilitate the sharing of information to scientists, laboratory personnel, engineers, academics and policy makers who have a common interest in biosafety and biosecurity issues. TaBSA is a registered Professional Association established in March 2018.


TaBSA is responsible for the organization of Biosafety and Biosecurity networking meeting and conferences of professionals, an event that invites and attended regularly by a large number of multidisciplinary professionals in the field of health sciences, bioengineers, biological security personnel and related policy makers.


TaBSA is affiliated with several global partner agency and federations for strengthening the importance of biological risk management in Tanzania. TaBSA has a strong leadership and relation with national healthcare institutions. On the other hand, TABSA also collaborates with academic institutions such as University of Dodoma (UDOM), Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Health Sciences (MUHAS), Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS-BUGANDO), Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Center (KCMC – KCRI), Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and National Medical Research Institute (NIMR) to strengthen biosafety and biosecurity initiatives across the country. TABSA provide platform to share information and training and establish research collaborations in relation to emerging biological and gene editing technologies, novel pathogens and biological warfare threats.


TABSA assists Veterinary and Public Health Institutes to prepare guidelines for Biorisk Management and other documents based on standard ISO 35001-2019. Furthermore, TaBSA facilitates the One Health Biorisk Technical Working Group to identify pathogens & toxin of concern as well as developing biosafety legislation in Tanzania.
