Tanzania Biological Safety Association (TaBSA)

Who we are

The increasing need to enhance the protection and the safety of the employees involved in the management, processing, analysis and transfer of biological agents, as well as the safety of the general public and the protection of the environment, has led to the establishment of this professional association, in the areas of Health, Agriculture, Animal health, Food and Pharmaceutical industry. is a professional association that congregates practitioners for promotion of biosafety and biosecurity to facilitate the sharing of information to scientists, laboratory personnel, engineers, academics and policy makers who have a common interest in biosafety and biosecurity issues.  TaBSA is a non-profit civil association established in March 2018.

TaBSA is responsible for the organization of annual Biosafety and Biosecurity networking meeting of professionals, an event attended regularly by a large number of multidisciplinary professionals in the field of health sciences, biological security personnel and related policy makers.

TaBSA is affiliated with several global partner agency and federations for strengthening the importance of biological risk management in Tanzania. TaBSA has a strong leadership and relation with International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA). On the other hand, TABSA also collaborates with national healthcare, Academic Institutions such as University of Dodoma, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Health Sciences (MUHAS), Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Center (KCRI), Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and National Medical Research Institute (NMRI) to strengthen biosafety and biosecurity initiatives across the country. TaBSA provides platform to share information and training and establish research collaborations in relation to emerging biological and gene editing technologies, novel pathogens and biological warfare threats.
